Chemistry Internship – Spring 2017
Disney’s Animal Kingdom® and Epcot® Theme Parks

Department Overview:
Gain valuable work experience with water chemistry both in the lab and field, and become a vital part of the Chemistry Professional Intern Team that maintains the water quality of the animal habitats of Disney’s Animal Kingdom® Theme Park, The Seas with Nemo & Friends® Pavilion at Epcot® and various satellite locations within the Walt Disney World® Resort.

No direct animal contact takes place in this role.


In this role, make it your personal goal to see that our parks’ water is safe, clean and beautiful for our Guests, Cast Members and animals.

  • Analyze salt and fresh water aquatic animal systems and marine mammal holding areas with state-of-the-art analytical instrumentation including Dissolved Oxygen, ORP & pH Sensors, Spectrophotometers, TOC Analyzer, Ion Chromatograph and more!
  • Explore both guest areas and behind the scenes to sample reptile, terrestrial mammal and avian aquatic habitats weekly.
  • Support cutting edge applied research projects in the field of fisheries health management, aquatic ecology or water treatment technology development.
  • Partner with Management in the care and upkeep of the instrumental and water chemistry laboratories at Disney’s Animal Kingdom® Theme Park and The Seas with Nemo & Friends® Pavilion chemistry labs so that they are safe, efficient and guest- tour-ready at all times.

Basic Qualifications

You must meet the basic qualification in order to apply for the internship:

  • An ability to lift and carry a 50-pound load daily.
  • Three months of independent chemistry research or paid laboratory experience.
  • A valid U.S. driver’s license and personal mode of transportation to travel to and from the workplace and to behind-the-scenes work locations.
  • The ability to operate a company vehicle. Candidate must be willing and able to operate a company vehicle under inclement weather, including minimal lighting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced proficiency with analytical chemistry techniques, including method development and troubleshooting of instrumentation.
  • Experience with the cycling and maintenance of salt water aquariums.

Required Education

  • A minimum grade point average of 3.0.
  • A chemistry major, or a solid foundation in applied chemistry fields.
  • Completed coursework in organic chemistry and analytical chemistry with applied laboratory instrumentation experience that includes spectrophotometric and ion chromatographic methods.

Preferred Education

  • Senior or recent graduate with one or more chemistry-related publications.

Internship Eligibility:

• Must be enrolled in an accredited college/university taking at least one class in the semester/quarter (spring/fall) prior to participation in the internship program OR must have graduated from a college/university within 6 months OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Professional Internship
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Must not have completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or program.
• Must possess unrestricted work authorization
• Must provide full work availability
• Must provide own transportation to/from work
• Current Active Disney cast members must meet Professional Internship transfer guidelines (for Walt Disney World cast members this is no more than four points and one reprimand in the last six months; for Disneyland cast members this is six months of consecutive service and a performance record clear of any disciplinary issues (warnings, suspensions, etc.) for at least six months)

Program Length: The approximate dates of this internship are January 2017 through June 2017. Interns must be fully available for the duration of the internship.
